Game 3 of the World Series at Tropicana Field: Milwaukee leads the series 2-0, and Tampa Bay starts Freddy Peralta (5-2, 3.25 ERA, 1.01 WHIP as a Ray) against left-hander Robert Gasser (5-5, 3.87 ERA), with the Rays 20-4 at home against left-handed starters this season.

01The Matchup

Game 3 of the World Series moves to Tropicana Field with Milwaukee up 2-0, and the first two games explain both the lead and why this spot is different. Milwaukee won Game 1 by a 3-2 score and Game 2 by a 5-4 score, and Game 2 turned in a way that should worry Tampa Bay: the Rays scored all four of their runs in the first inning, capped by a two-run home run from Liam Hicks, knocked Logan Henderson out after three innings, and still lost.

The Brewers chipped back with single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, outhit Tampa Bay 11-7, stole five bases, and got six scoreless innings from their relievers after Henderson exited. Tampa Bay now starts Freddy Peralta, whose season line splits in two: 5-9 with a 4.99 ERA in 113.2 innings for the New York Mets, then 5-2 with a 3.25 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP and a .208 average against in 55.1 innings for Tampa Bay. Milwaukee starts left-hander Robert Gasser (5-5, 3.87 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 103 strikeouts in 109.1 innings), a solid starter, but not the ace-level arm the Rays just faced in Jacob Misiorowski in Game 1.

02Key Factors

First, the left-handed matchup sits squarely with the home team. Tampa Bay went 31-17 in games started by a left-hander this season and 20-4 at home in those games, and Gasser is the first left-handed starter of this series. Junior Caminero (42 home runs, 101 RBI) leads a lineup that does its best work in this exact split, and Gasser allowed 15 home runs in 109.1 innings, 1.23 per nine innings, so one mistake to the middle of this order changes the game.

Second, Peralta as a Ray is a different pitcher from Peralta on the full-season line. His combined 4.42 ERA and 1.33 WHIP hide the Tampa Bay version: a 3.25 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP and only six home runs allowed in 55.1 innings, with hitters batting .208 against him. Third, the off day resets the clearest Milwaukee edge from Game 2.

The Brewers bullpen covered six scoreless innings on Saturday and Tampa Bay used five relievers behind Drew Rasmussen, but the Sunday travel day means both pens arrive rested, so Game 3 turns on the starters and the home splits more than on Game 2 workload. The counterweight is real: Milwaukee went 103-59, scored 832 runs to Tampa Bay's 736, and went 48-33 on the road.

03The Pick: Rays ML

We are on Tampa Bay on the moneyline at -122 (DraftKings via ESPN, total 7.0), because this is the first game of the series where the pitching and venue edges point the same way. Peralta's Tampa Bay split (5-2, 3.25 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, .208 average against) is better than Gasser's season line (3.87 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, .229 average against), the Rays went 55-26 at Tropicana Field, and their 20-4 home mark in games started by a left-hander is the strongest single split in this game.

At -122 the market asks Tampa Bay to win about 55.0 percent of the time, and the market itself is telling a story: the team down 2-0, with the worse season record and 96 fewer runs scored, is still favored at home behind this starter and this split. The risk is stated plainly: Milwaukee is the better team, its bullpen just threw six scoreless innings in Game 2, and a third straight one-run win puts Tampa Bay in a 3-0 hole that almost no team climbs out of.

If the Brewers win the Gasser start, the series is effectively over. We think the Peralta split, the left-handed matchup and the building are enough to get Tampa Bay its first win instead. Projected final: Rays 4, Brewers 3.

OUR VERDICT
Rays ML
Pick set: Oct 24, 2026, 11:27 PM CT

Peralta's Tampa Bay split (5-2, 3.25 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, .208 average against) beats Gasser's line (3.87 ERA, 1.19 WHIP), Tampa Bay went 55-26 at home and 20-4 at home in games started by a left-hander, and the market favors the home team despite the 2-0 series hole. Rays ML at -122 (DraftKings via ESPN).
