The fifth seed arrives off a clay-court semifinal at another WTA 125 two weeks ago. Her opponent has not played a tour-level clay match all year and has been off the court since October 7.

The Matchup

This is a first-round match at the Queretaro WTA 125, a WTA 125 event one tier below the main WTA Tour, played on outdoor clay at the Club Campestre de Queretaro. Tamara Zidansek is the fifth seed and ranked No. 141, with a 29-20 record this season. Katrina Scott is ranked No. 374. This is their first meeting.

Zidansek arrives with her game already tuned to this surface. Two weeks ago in Mallorca she reached the semifinal of another WTA 125 on clay, beating Despina Papamichail 6-4, 6-2 and Joelle Steur 6-2, 6-1, then Rebeka Masarova in three sets in the quarterfinal, and she lost the semifinal to Laura Samson in three sets on October 17.

She has had ten days off since that run. Scott's season has run on hard courts, and her most recent match was a loss to qualifier Lexington Reed at a W35 event in Las Vegas on October 7. Both women finished their last matches in full, and neither has a retirement in her recent record.

Key Factors

Clay is where the gap lives. Zidansek is 18-12 on clay this season, and the surface has defined her career: 229 wins against 105 losses on clay, a French Open semifinal in 2021, and a career-high ranking of No. 22. The Mallorca scorelines show what that pedigree does at this level. Papamichail and Steur won nine games between them in two matches against her, because her heavy topspin game keeps pushing returners back and turning neutral rallies into short points on her terms.

Scott has no such footing here. She is 16-17 this season across all levels, she has lost four of her last five matches, and she has not played a single tour-level clay match in 2026, so she has to find a new surface's timing against the player in this draw most at home on it. Rust compounds it: she has played one match in the last six weeks.

What beats the pick is Scott's raw power and her old ceiling. She was ranked as high as No. 149 as a teenager, and in September she pushed Carole Monnet, a clay-court regular, to a deciding set in Guadalajara qualifying, losing 7-6, 6-7, 6-2.

If Scott's first strike lands early, sets can stay tight, and a handicap this large dies in tight sets even when the better player wins. Zidansek also dropped sets in Mallorca to Masarova and Samson, so she is not immune to a dip. The pick needs her clay rhythm to show up from the first game, the way it did against Papamichail and Steur.

Our Pick
Tamara Zidansek -5.5 games (-101)

Zidansek just spent a week winning clay matches at this exact level, and Scott arrives from hard courts with no clay form to lean on and weeks between matches. The margin asks a lot, and one tight set can undo it, but the surface gap between these two is the widest thing in this matchup. Take Tamara Zidansek -5.5 games at -101.
