Valencia walks into Palau Blaugrana at 6-2, second in the standings, and fresh off holding off Fenerbahce. Barcelona is 5-3 and just won in Munich, but it gets there with a thinner guard rotation, and Valencia's pace has stressed every defense it has faced. Two teams that played on Tuesday, a one-possession spread, and the league's highest-scoring offense on the road make this the game of the round.

The Matchup

Valencia owns the league's loudest offense, and the standings say so plainly: 773 points in eight games, 96.6 per game, more than any other team. T.J. Shorts drives it. He averages 17.9 points and 5.8 assists per game, and he just scored a game-high 23 points in Tuesday's 86-78 win over Fenerbahce, closing the game out after the visitors briefly took the lead late. Shorts does not need a set play to hurt a defense. He gets into the paint, and everything Valencia does well starts from the space that creates.

Armoni Brooks gives that attack a second gear. Brooks averages 13.4 points per game this season, and against Fenerbahce he scored 16 points, including the late three-pointer that pushed Valencia back in front for good in the final minute. Kameron Taylor adds 11.5 points per game behind them, so Valencia's scoring does not die when Shorts sits.

Barcelona's defense has been ordinary by its standards, allowing 690 points in eight games, and its point differential is just plus 21, against Valencia's plus 65. The hosts win, but they win close, and close is dangerous against an offense this deep.

The big news of the week sits on Valencia's side, and it is honestly bad. Nikola Mirotic is out after Valencia confirmed a muscle injury to the adductor in his left leg, per Eurohoops on October 29. He could not finish the Fenerbahce game after feeling a sharp pain in his thigh, the club has set no return timetable, and he was averaging 13.0 points per game.

Nate Reuvers is also out with a foot bone injury, per Basketball Sphere. Valencia loses real frontcourt scoring, and the pick case has to absorb that. It does, because the engine of this team is its guard play, and that part is fully intact.

Key Factors

Barcelona's guard room is the other half of the availability story. Juan Nunez is out with an ankle injury and Yoan Makoundou is out with a left knee injury, per Basketball Sphere's report updated on October 29. Joel Parra is doubtful through illness, and Umoja Gibson is doubtful with a left knee contusion after taking a knock during the Bayern game on Tuesday, a game in which he still scored 7 points.

Keep an eye on whether Umoja Gibson plays before placing a bet. That list leaves Kevin Punter carrying an enormous load. Punter averages 16.5 points per game and scored 23 in the 88-84 win at Bayern, and he is good enough to win a quarter on his own. Asking him to outduel Shorts, Brooks and Taylor for a full night, on a short bench, is a different request.

Rest is equal, which quietly favors the deeper team. Both sides played on Tuesday, October 27. Barcelona won 88-84 at Bayern Munich, while Valencia beat Fenerbahce 86-78 at home. Barcelona had the longer trip home, and Valencia's ride up the coast is the shortest road trip on its schedule. Neither team gets a rest edge, so the game comes down to which rotation holds up better over forty minutes, and Valencia's has more scoring in it even without Mirotic.

The closing minutes are where this spread lives. Valencia just survived exactly this script against Fenerbahce, losing a big lead, falling behind late, and still finding a closer in Shorts and a shot from Brooks. Barcelona's home crowd at Palau Blaugrana will test that poise, and Punter is a real threat to steal the game late. But a near pick-em price on the deeper, higher-scoring team is the side to be on, especially when the favorite's bench is this thin.

Our Pick
Valencia Basket +2.5 (-109)

Nikola Mirotic is out, and that is a real loss for Valencia, but its scoring does not run through one forward. Shorts sets the pace for the league's highest-scoring offense, Brooks and Taylor stretch defenses, and Barcelona's thin backcourt asks too much of Punter late. Take Valencia Basket +2.5 (-109).

SCORE PROJECTION
FC Barcelona 88, Valencia Basket 87
