Alabama vs LSU Prediction, Odds, Best Bets - Week 10

Two weeks of rest, two of the most explosive offenses in the SEC, and a Saturday afternoon in Tiger Stadium. LSU scores 40 a game and allows 16. Alabama scores 38 and just lost at Tennessee. The winner walks out of Baton Rouge in front of the conference race, and the loser explains itself.
The Matchup
LSU's offense is the loudest unit in this game. The Tigers score 40.1 points per game, throw for 318 yards and run for 192, and Sam Leavitt has thrown for 2,173 yards with 17 touchdowns. Dilin Jones gives them a real ground game at 657 rushing yards, and Jackson Harris leads the receivers at 634 yards, so Alabama's defense, allowing 21.2 points per game, has to defend everything at once.
That Alabama defense is good. It is not built to hold this offense in check for four quarters in Baton Rouge. Alabama's own offense is nearly as loud. Keelon Russell has thrown for 2,057 yards with 15 touchdowns, Lotzeir Brooks has 488 receiving yards, and the Crimson Tide score 38.2 points per game.
The problem is the other side of the ball: LSU allows 16.0 points per game, the best defense in this matchup, and the Tigers just shut out Mississippi State 31-0 and won 38-17 at Auburn. Both teams last played on October 24, so rest is even and preparation is maxed on both sidelines.
Key Factors
With rest even, the game comes down to which defense bends less, and the recent evidence favors the home team. LSU's only loss in its last three was a 35-34 shootout at Kentucky, a game its offense nearly dragged home anyway. Alabama has lost two of its last three, to Georgia and at Tennessee, and in both losses the offense stalled for long stretches against defenses a step below this one.
Russell is a genuine talent and Alabama's ceiling in a pure track meet is the honest counterpoint: if LSU's secondary has an off day, the Tigers could score 35 and still be chasing. But Leavitt has been the more consistent quarterback over the last month, Jones keeps LSU's offense on schedule, and Tiger Stadium in the afternoon is worth real points in a game between two teams this talented. LSU has more ways to win this game, and most of them end with the Tigers ahead by a touchdown.
LSU has the better defense in a game full of offense, the home crowd, and the steadier recent form, while Alabama's offense has stalled twice in three weeks. In a scoring game, the side that also defends is the side to lay points with. Take LSU -5.5 at -110.
