Buffalo comes off its bye at 5-1 with the most productive ground game in this matchup, and Baltimore arrives at Highmark Stadium without its quarterback. A contender test now hinges on how much Tyler Huntley can give a Ravens team that has lost two straight.

The Matchup

Lamar Jackson is out with an ankle injury. Tyler Huntley starts again after starting Weeks 6 and 7, and Baltimore's offense has stalled in his hands. The Ravens lost 35-13 at Cincinnati and 13-10 at Cleveland in those two starts, and Derrick Henry was held to 45 yards on 17 carries against the Bengals and 58 yards on 17 carries against the Browns.

Henry ran for 102 yards against Atlanta in Week 5, so the drop is not about the back. Defenses are loading up on Henry because Huntley does not scare them downfield, and Zay Flowers is left as the one explosive piece. Flowers has 40 catches for 608 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Baltimore needs him to win on the outside because nothing else is stretching the field.

Buffalo's offense is built to punish exactly this kind of short-handed visitor. The Bills average 32.8 points a game and rush for 148.8 yards a game at 5.1 yards a carry, with 14 rushing touchdowns in six games. James Cook III leads it with 117 carries for 627 yards and 6 touchdowns, and Josh Allen adds his own damage as a runner, including 10 carries for 121 yards and a touchdown against the Rams.

Allen has thrown for 1,504 yards with 9 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Baltimore's defensive front is thinned out for this matchup, with Broderick Washington Jr. out with an ankle injury and safety Jaylinn Hawkins out with a knee injury, which is a bad combination against a team that wants to run Cook between the tackles all afternoon.

Rest tilts this one further. Buffalo had its bye in Week 7 and comes in rested at home, while Baltimore plays a second straight road game with a backup quarterback. The Bills also get a secondary test they can survive: C.J. Gardner-Johnson is suspended and unavailable for Buffalo, but the Ravens' passing game without Jackson has not punished anyone for two weeks.

Key Factors

Cook against a Baltimore front missing Washington is where Buffalo takes control. If the Bills run the ball the way they have all season, Huntley spends the game watching from the sideline and Baltimore's defense wears down by the fourth quarter. Ed Oliver is questionable with a knee injury for Buffalo, and his presence matters against Henry on the other side of the ball. Keep an eye on whether Oliver plays before placing a bet.

Buffalo's own defense is the reason this is not a runaway on paper. The Bills allow 28.5 points a game, the leakiest number in this matchup, and they have given the ball away 9 times. Baltimore's season passing numbers, a 70.3 percent completion rate and 8.4 yards per attempt, were built with Jackson at quarterback and do not describe the offense Huntley is running. The Ravens who show up Sunday are the ones who scored 13 and 10 the last two weeks.

What beats the Buffalo pick is a throwback Henry game. If Henry gets volume early, breaks the tackles he missed against Cincinnati and Cleveland, and Flowers turns one short catch into a long score, Baltimore controls the clock, keeps Allen cold on the sideline, and a rested Bills team finds itself in a one-score game late. Buffalo's defense has allowed that kind of afternoon more than once this season.

Our Pick
Bills -3.5 (-110)

This is a rested Buffalo team at home against a Baltimore offense that has stalled for two straight weeks without its quarterback. Cook gives the Bills a way to control the game that Baltimore, missing its best player, has no answer for right now. Take the Bills -3.5.
