Miami's best player is a game-time question and the Clippers are missing two of their own scorers, in a late game between two teams still looking for a first real week.

The Matchup

Miami is 2-5, scores 118.1 points per game, and allows 123.9. The Heat play fast and loose by their own historical standards, with Bam Adebayo anchoring the middle, Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson on the wings, and Giannis Antetokounmpo, in Miami after the league's biggest recent move, as the best player on the roster. The Clippers are 1-6, score 108.1, and allow 115.4. Darius Garland runs their offense, Brook Lopez starts at center, and Rui Hachimura and Gradey Dick give them size and shooting on the wings.

Antetokounmpo is day-to-day with an ankle sprain, listed with a November 4 return date. Keep an eye on whether Antetokounmpo plays before placing a bet. He is Miami's leading scorer and its transition engine, and a Heat team without him is a jump-shooting team on the road. The Clippers' absences are settled. Bradley Beal is out with knee inflammation until around November 8, Brandon Ingram is out after Achilles surgery until around November 8, and Jordan Miller is out after shoulder surgery.

DraftKings makes Miami a 4.5-point road favorite at Intuit Dome, with a total of 234.5. A road favorite with a questionable superstar, priced against a home team that has played one good week all season, is a number built on uncertainty.

Key Factors

Miami's defense is the first problem for the favorite. The Heat allow 123.9 points per game, second-worst in the league, and that number was built largely with Antetokounmpo playing. A team that cannot get stops has to outscore the home team for 48 minutes to cover on the road, and if Antetokounmpo sits or is limited, Miami's scoring loses its most efficient source.

The Clippers' offense is the second problem, and it cuts the other way. Los Angeles scores 108.1 a night, Garland has carried a heavy load without Beal and Ingram, and the Clippers have folded in several fourth quarters already. To cover at home they need a normal offensive night, not a great one, because Miami's defense gives normal nights away freely.

The late tip and the buildings matter at the margins. Intuit Dome crowds have been loud for a team giving them little to cheer, and Miami is at the end of the night's slate in a road spot. None of that decides a game. All of it nudges a close one toward the home team, and this spread only needs a close one.

Our Pick
LA Clippers +4.5 (-106)

Miami gives up points to everyone, and its best player may not play. The Clippers are a mess of their own, but they are home, and home is worth trusting in a game this uncertain. Take the LA Clippers +4.5 at -106.
